Enclosure Climbing Center

August 20th, 2014

Additional Info: A letter to the Jackson Hole climbing community from Andy and Wendy

It is with great sadness that we announce the Enclosure is permanently closing on September 4th, 2014 after operating for nearly eight years.

We realize this will come as a surprise and shock to everyone and arriving at this decision was not easy.

The Enclosure has been for sale for three years.

We have aggressively tried to sell it to any organization who would continue operating it as a climbing gym. We priced the business fairly to help achieve this goal. We approached the town, the county, and many other organizations trying to find a buyer for the gym business.

Unfortunately after three years of effort, we were not successful.

One of the challenges we faced trying to sell the business as a climbing gym was the uncertainty and risk regarding publicly funded competing projects in the town of Jackson. The town boulders (which received significant public funds) had an impact on summer, youth, and group business. The county recreation center has often broached the subject of building their own climbing wall. These types of projects created an environment of uncertainty that introduced considerable risk to any potential buyers for a climbing facility.

While these types of publicly funded projects are a great asset to the community, the risks to private enterprises in a small market like Jackson are very real and should be considered.

Recently we were approached by a party interested in purchasing the building and land for a purpose other than a climbing gym. After considering the future uncertainty and the unlikely ability to sell the Enclosure as a climbing facility, we have agreed to their request.

The last day of operation will be September 4th.

As part of winding down the business we are committed to making sure those customers who have purchased products or memberships with future value are refunded for any unused portion of their purchase.

Active EFT members who were billed on August 5th can continue using the facility until September 4th. Your membership dues charged on August 5th were for the period of August 5th to September 4th. There will be no more charges to your account. Active EFT members are not entitled to a refund since the billing is month to month and you will not be billed again.

Other customers, as outlined below, are entitled to refunds as indicated.

  • Holders of prepaid annual memberships purchased after September 5th, 2013 are entitled to a prorated refund for the amount of time left in their annual membership.
  • Punch card holders, with punches remaining, who purchased their punch card after September 5th, 2013. Punches have always expired after one year (this was part of the punch card agreement form) and if you purchased punches before that date they have expired. The refund will only be for the unused punches purchased after September 5th, 2013.
  • Individuals with outstanding gift card balances are entitled to be refunded the entire remaining amount.
  • Currently frozen EFT members are entitled to a refund for their consecutive charged freeze fees since their last period of active membership. Example: if you froze your membership on April 5th, 2014 you are entitled to be reimbursed for three months of freeze fees. In preparation for this announcement we did not charge freeze fees on August 5th, 2014 thus no refund is needed for the August freeze fee.
  • One month prepaid memberships purchased after August 5th, 2014 are entitled to a prorated refund of their one month membership.

If you feel you are entitled to a refund, you are encouraged to visit the Enclosure Climbing Center prior to September 4th to discuss the refund.

For those unable to visit the Enclosure prior to the date, we have created a web form located at https://enclosureclimbing.wufoo.com/forms/enclosure-refund-request/

We hope to process all refunds by November 1st, 2014.

We have greatly appreciated your patronage and support for the nearly eight years the Enclosure has been operating.
